Trying to decide if these lights will look any good over our dining table. Patricia Urquoila for Flos. Half price. Thoughts?
This is the 800 kgs of concrete we pulled out from the eastern side of the house a few weeks ago. This was all the homemade path down the side, and I have been itching to dig it up for years!
I dug a lot of it up with a crowbar, before Erik weighed in with the big gun - a hired jackhammer. At first I thought he was just being a boy with a toy, but it proved a wise move as some of the concrete further down the side of the house was seriously thick. It would have been hard going with my crowbar…
Worst part of this exercise was that we couldn’t barrow it up due to the sloping block and retaining walls. So we carried it up by hand.
Not sure that things actually look better down the side - now I am more conscious of the hard graft ahead to actually landscape it and make it look nice. But at least the path will no longer function as an aquaduct in storms.
Erik did a great job this weekend, digging through rock hard ground (and lots of stones) to lay the foundation for our new front path to our new front gate. Looks awesome! Though Erik was really feeling the hard work with the pick and crowbar….
So nice to not be traipsing (so much) dirt into the house. Erik and his mate John are laying turf tomorrow, so will be green by tomorrow arvo. In between, Erik has to dig out the area to be turfed. I anticipate more sweating and swearing to come. Hope the neighbours are braced for it….
(Excuse the wonky photo from the mobile phone - will have to get the resident pro on the job for some better quality - and square - pics…)
Wow! Erik and Brendan (or should that be Brendan) finished our lovely new front fence yesterday. It looks fantastic! I keep going out there and staring at it and oohing and aahing like that dude on the Colorbond ad.. Sad, but true.
Am loving our new mailbox. After five years of a dodgy cheap sky blue number (that had leaked since the reno), we finally have a shiny new mailbox with our number on the front. Thanks to our neighbours for the referral to the Mailmaster mailbox shop at Coorparoo. We were able to order exactly what we wanted and we thought the price was pretty good (well, certainly if you compare it to a Robert Plumb mailbox!).
We still have to put a top on the block wall, do a path to the pedestrian gate and lay some new turf - that can be next weekend’s job for me.
I moved all the timber for the battening this afternoon which meant we finally got to shut the gates and let the dog into the front yard. I don’t think she understands yet that she can finally get back out there and scare the walkers once more… Might need to track down a “Beware of the dog” sign again.
